That being said; a four cylinder engine would get horrible mileage if it were attempting to move a 3 ton car 6, pounds. A six would do better. But suppose you put a V12 in a Volks Waggon.
You'd have TONS of power but your fuel mileage would suffer greatly by virtue of all those cylinders sucking down gasoline. A 4 will be better than a 6 in a small car but a 6 would be comparable, or even slightly better than a 4 in a mid size truck. With the truck, you'll need the power a 4 would struggle to provide, unless you got a bigger 4.
